Description

The caste system is an ancient social class system, the most representative of which is the Indian caste system culture, the culture is built on the Hindu concept of reincarnation. The caste system includes four major castes, which divide Indians into Brahmins (Priests), Kshatriyas (Warriors), Vaisyas (Farmers and Merchants) and Sudras (Slaves or Laborers). In terms of marriage, justice, social welfare and status, there will be great differences due to different castes.
Dalits (Untouchable) are excluded by the caste system and have been engaged in the most inferior jobs for generations. Among India’s current population of 1.36 billion, at least 200 million are untouchables. Most of them have low social status and poverty, furthermore, women face serious discrimination and personal safety.

After India's independence from the British in 1947, the caste system was officially abolished legally. It is illegal to discriminate against different castes, but in fact the influence of the caste system can still be seen in daily life. However, the Indian government, which has undergone many political party rotations and two terms of Dalit presidents, is still working hard for democracy and human rights equality to overturn the caste system that is deeply rooted in the hearts of most Indians.
